The Philippines, a tropical paradise of 7,641 islands, continues to captivate travelers worldwide as a premier beach destination. In a testament to its allure, the World Travel Awards (WTA) recently named the Philippines “Asia’s Leading Beach Destination” during the WTA Asia and Oceania Gala Ceremony, held at City of Dreams Manila this past September.
Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco expressed pride in this recognition, stating, “The charm of our islands, pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant marine life continually captivate global travelers. Being named ‘Asia’s Leading Beach Destination’ by the WTA motivates us to further enrich the Philippine experience with love, joy, and unforgettable travel.”
Proud Host of the WTA Gala
This year marks a significant milestone for the Philippines, as it hosted the WTA Gala for the first time—a reflection of its growing prominence and readiness to host world-class events, as highlighted by Sec. Frasco. Earlier in July, during the Philippine MICE Conference (MICECON) 2024, she shared the country’s enthusiasm for the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector, underscoring the nation’s commitment to welcoming more large-scale international gatherings.
Launched in 1993 and regarded as the “Oscars” of the travel industry, the WTA celebrates excellence across all sectors of tourism. This year, the Philippines won seven awards, including Asia’s Leading Dive Destination, Asia’s Leading Island Destination, and Asia’s Leading Luxury Island Destination (Boracay). Notably, Cebu was recognized as Asia’s Leading Wedding Destination, and the “Love the Philippines” campaign earned Asia’s Leading Marketing Campaign. Additionally, Sec. Frasco received the Transformational Leader Award in Tourism Governance.
A Tropical Haven for Travelers
Honored as Asia’s Leading Beach Destination, the Philippines remains a top choice for beach lovers with iconic spots like Boracay Island, Bantayan Island, Panglao Island, Alona Beach in Bohol, and Palawan. While these destinations draw visitors year-round, the Department of Tourism (DOT) is also promoting emerging beach destinations to offer travelers new, unique experiences.
As part of the Philippine Experience Program, the DOT highlights the country’s vibrant culture, local products, and must-visit provinces, showcasing the nation’s diverse landscapes and beautiful beaches. With initiatives like “Love Inspired: Philippines—A Canvas of Biodiversity,” the DOT is also encouraging sustainable tourism practices, aiming to protect and preserve these stunning natural wonders for future generations.
