Ana Maria Aboitiz Delgado is set to assume leadership of UnionBank of the Philippines from Edwin R. Bautista, the current President and CEO, who, over his 27-year tenure, propelled UnionBank to the forefront of digital banking in the country and set it on a trajectory to lead in retail banking. Bautista declares, “Mission accomplished!”
In 2022, Bautista was asked to extend his term to achieve two significant milestones: successfully acquiring and migrating Citibank Philippines’ retail business to UnionBank platforms, and ensuring a qualified successor by 2025. Two years after winning the bid for Citi Philippines’ retail assets, UnionBank completed the migration of Citi accounts on March 25, 2024.
Delgado began her career at UnionBank as a management trainee in November 2003. She has since led the development of SME Banking and Retail Consumer Finance, including credit cards and loans. Delgado also spearheaded the design of customer experiences across UnionBank’s physical and digital touchpoints, distinguishing it from traditional banks.
On July 1, 2023, SEVP Ana Delgado expanded her role to head the Bank’s Institutional Banking business, in addition to overseeing Customer Experience and Digital Channels. She serves as a Director of the UnionBank Board and Chairman of the CitySavings Bank board. Delgado is credited with driving UnionBank’s digital retail banking innovations, such as the digital bank branch model and UnionBank Online.
“We are excited about Ana’s leadership at UnionBank. Her experience and expertise will drive the Bank’s ongoing digital transformation, building on the foundation laid by Edwin and accelerating UnionBank’s path to becoming a premier retail bank,” shared Erramon Aboitiz, Chairman of the UnionBank Board of Directors.
Confidently handing over UnionBank’s leadership to Delgado effective January 1, 2025, Bautista aims to propel the Bank to new heights of growth. With a retail base now exceeding 15 million customers, Delgado’s expertise in customer experience design and digital innovation will undoubtedly advance the strong legacy left by Bautista.
Edwin Bautista will continue to serve on UnionBank’s Board of Directors to ensure a seamless leadership transition.
