Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank), UnionBank GlobalLinker, and AB Capital & Investment Corporation (AB Capital) have joined forces to educate Filipino micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) on financial literacy and financial market education. The partnership aims to equip MSMEs with knowledge on initial public offerings (IPOs) and related topics, providing them with increased opportunities for business and growth, and enabling them to transition from medium-sized to larger corporations.
The partnership supports the goal of UnionBank to promote inclusive prosperity in the country, and is aligned with AB Capital’s vision of making capital markets accessible to all entrepreneurs who meet the criteria of the investing public and regulatory authorities. With this partnership, UnionBank hopes to help demystify misconceptions about IPOs, and make going public easier for MSMEs.
According to UnionBank SME and Micropreneurs Segment Head Jaypee Soliman, the partnership will differentiate UnionBank’s offers from those of other traditional banks. Soliman said, “It’s not just for the medium and the large, but the small ones can also participate so they can understand how they can get to a point that they can be considered a large corporate.”
The partnership’s first batch of activities is set to roll out soon, beginning with a webinar co-hosted by the Philippine Stock Exchange on March 1. The webinar aims to “strengthen the awareness of MSMEs on IPO listing as a viable capital raising platform to spur business growth.”
