Global Electric Transport (GET) Philippines, a pioneer in electric mass mobility as a service in the country, has partnered with UBX, the leading open finance platform in the Philippines, to launch Alamat Digitized Memberships (DMs). UBX will serve as the primary tech partner for GET’s rollout of Alamat DMs, which will allow the public to subscribe to the electric bus service and help deploy more electric mass transport vehicles in the country.
Through blockchain-enabled digital characters called Alamat DMs, the owner can support the manufacture of the COMET electric minibuses, which can help reduce the country’s carbon footprint. The Alamat DMs will be launched in the second quarter of 2023 and offer a gaming experience that allows owners to earn rewards while generating gamified returns from the operations of the COMET electric vehicles. The Alamat DMs also come with several perks and benefits, including discounts for buying early and redeemable points in the GETPASS mobile app, which can be used to ride the COMET electric minibuses.
GET Philippines hopes that the partnership will encourage more Filipinos to use public transportation to reduce the carbon footprint of the country. The COMET electric minibuses are currently being used by many corporations for their fleet shuttle needs and are now positioned to be the most environmentally sustainable alternative to jeepneys, the most common form of public transportation nationwide. With over 300,000 jeepneys in the Philippines, one COMET vehicle can reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by 40,000 kilograms and cater to as many as 150,000 commuters a year.
According to UBX President and CEO John Januszczak, the partnership shows that fintech and blockchain innovation can bring positive impact in several industries while simultaneously supporting sustainable initiatives through technology. The collaboration between GET Philippines and UBX is part of UBX’s mission of financial inclusivity to improve the quality of life of Filipinos across the archipelago by empowering them to directly contribute to and get rewarded from the transformation of public transportation and sustainability at the same time.
