Toyota Upholds FUN TO DRIVE Spirit with Race Weekend 2 of GAZOO Racing PH Cup

Racing thrills await at the Clark International Speedway on Saturday, September 28

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) invites racing enthusiasts to join the excitement at the second race weekend of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippine Cup (TGR Philippine Cup) on September 28 at the Clark International Speedway in Mabalacat, Pampanga.

Rooted in the spirit of FUN TO DRIVE, TMP is dedicated to providing Filipinos with exceptional vehicles through motorsports, where both racers and race cars are challenged to reach new heights. Launched in 2014 as the Vios Cup, this racing series showcased the capabilities of the locally produced Vios as a competitive race car. Now under the TGR Philippine Cup banner, fans can look forward to the debut of more Toyota models on the racetrack in the future.

Wheel-to-Wheel Action

The TGR Philippine Cup features two exciting race formats: the Sprint Race, consisting of 12 laps or 30 minutes, and the Endurance Race, lasting 1.5 hours. Each format includes four categories: Novice Class, Promotional Class, Sporting Class, and Super Sporting Class. Racers will be driving the one-make-race Vios or Vios OMR.

TMP President Masando Hashimoto will participate in the Novice Class, making his racing debut during the first race weekend. This class includes racers who have progressed from the Autocross Challenge, such as Reph Bangsil and Lexi Mendiola, as well as media racers Jamil Lacuna, Jose Altoveros, Pablo Salapantan, and John Rey San Diego. Sim racer Russel Reyes, who secured 3rd place at this year’s TGR GT Cup, will also compete.

Team TGR Philippines racers Ryan Agoncillo and Troy Montero are set to return, competing in the Sporting Class and Super Sporting Class, respectively. New to the Sporting Class for Race Weekend 2 is Kody Ng, selected through a driver tryout, who will race alongside seasoned competitors from top racing teams.

Grandstand Excitement

Toyota car clubs will showcase their GR performance vehicles, allowing fans of the GR Supra, GR 86, and GR Yaris to experience the thrilling sounds and sights of these high-performance cars on the track.

A highlight of the event will be a driving exhibition featuring professional drifters demonstrating their skills in the GR 86. Lucky audience members will even have the chance to ride along during these exhilarating drift sessions.

Sim racing fans can test their skills at the TGR GT Cup experience booth, competing to set the fastest lap time for a chance to win exciting prizes.

Fans can look forward to various freebies during the event, official GR merchandise for sale, displays of GR road cars, and a live musical performance to cap off the weekend. Best of all, admission to the TGR Philippine Cup is FREE!

TMP Vice President for Marketing Services, Mr. Elvin Luciano, expressed, “The fun never stops with TOYOTA GAZOO Racing! By developing motorsports in the country through events like the TGR Philippine Cup, we hope fans discover more reasons to enjoy and experience the thrill of the track.”
