Filipino Olympic hero feted by company officials and team members in a turnover ceremony at Toyota Motor Philippines’ Laguna plant
Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has awarded a brand-new Land Cruiser Prado to Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo in recognition of his two gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The luxury SUV was presented to Yulo during a ceremonial turnover held at TMP’s manufacturing plant in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, in front of hundreds of the company’s team members. The event was led by TMP President Masando Hashimoto and Vice Chairman Dr. David Go, with other top management and labor union representatives in attendance.
As part of the ceremony, Yulo was given a tour of the plant to see how Filipino workers assemble Toyota models such as the Vios, Innova, and the soon-to-be-launched Tamaraw.
“Thank you, Caloy, for being an inspiration. Like the Prado, you are legendary in every way. We hope the Prado will Move Your World and help you achieve even more,” said TMP President Hashimoto.
Yulo made history by becoming the first Filipino and Southeast Asian to win multiple Olympic gold medals, securing top honors in both the individual men’s vault and floor exercise in artistic gymnastics. TMP President Hashimoto also shared that Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman Akio Toyoda was “very proud” of Yulo and all athletes who achieved incredible feats.
In addition to his Olympic victories, Yulo recently returned to Paris to support Philippine Paralympic athletes and engage in community discussions on giving back to those who helped shape his athletic journey.
“I know this gift isn’t just for me. It’s for the entire community that has been supporting me all along. I am deeply grateful to Toyota for welcoming me into your team and for this incredible gesture. I hope it inspires others to pursue their dreams and never give up,” shared Carlos Yulo during his acceptance speech.
Yulo will be driving a 2025 Land Cruiser Prado, equipped with a 2.4 turbo engine and automatic transmission. He personally chose the White Pearl Mica color for his new vehicle.
