The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale, renowned as the world’s largest book sale, continues its mission of “changing the world one book at a time” as it embarks on a nationwide tour. The “Big Bad Tour: Mission 1 New Million Readers” will commence at Parqal, Aseana City from May 24 to June 2, 2024.
This significant initiative is dedicated to fostering literacy, enriching reading comprehension, and nurturing a passion for reading among Filipinos of all ages. The book sale will traverse the country, reaching bustling urban centers and secluded rural communities alike. Addressing the event, the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Philippines, Datu Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, underscored the significance of empowering younger generations to contribute to the advancement of the nation. “What we are accomplishing today is to inspire the youth to shape a brighter future for the Philippines,” stated the Malaysian ambassador.
Fatima Aliah Dimaporo, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Undersecretary of Legislative Affairs, presented the DSWD’s data on poverty and literacy in the Philippines. She discussed the correlation between poverty and literacy in the country, highlighting the government agency’s initiatives to support underprivileged communities through educational programs. Dimaporo also emphasized the collaborative efforts of DSWD, Big Bad Wolf Books, and the Malaysian embassy to address the pressing need for enhanced literacy in these communities.

At the event, 7-year-old Monica Bautista, an avid young reader, shared her passion for books. Bautista, who started recognizing signs and symbols at the age of 2 and reading independently a year later, expressed, “I believe children should read more books because it boosts our imagination, and books help us learn new things.”
