Mark your calendars for the highly anticipated premiere of “The Idol,” an original drama series on HBO, on Monday, June 5th. The show will also be available for streaming on HBO GO. “The Idol” is a collaboration between Sam Levinson, Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, and Reza Fahim, and stars Lily-Rose Depp and Tesfaye. The series will debut at this year’s Festival de Cannes.
The show follows Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), a former pop star who suffered a nervous breakdown during her last tour. Determined to regain her status as the greatest and sexiest pop star in America, Jocelyn’s passions are reignited when she meets Tedros (Tesfaye), a nightclub impresario with a questionable past. Will her romantic awakening lead her to new heights or to the depths of her soul?
In addition to Tesfaye and Depp, “The Idol” boasts a talented cast that includes Troye Sivan, Dan Levy, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Eli Roth, Hari Nef, Jane Adams, Jennie Ruby Jane, Mike Dean, Moses Sumney, Rachel Sennott, Ramsey, Suzanna Son, and Hank Azaria.
The show is produced in partnership with A24, with executive producers Sam Levinson, Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, Reza Fahim, Kevin Turen, Ashley Levinson, Joseph Epstein, and Aaron L. Gilbert for BRON, and Sara E. White. Levinson directs the series, while the script is written by Levinson, Tesfaye, and Fahim.
