“The Creator,” the gripping sci-fi action thriller directed by Gareth Edwards and initially released in theaters by 20th Century Studios, is set to premiere on Disney+ starting Wednesday, December 20.
Starring a stellar cast including John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson, the newcomer Madeleine Yuna Voyles, and Allison Janney, the film unfolds in a future embroiled in a war between humanity and artificial intelligence. Joshua (played by Washington), a battle-hardened ex-special forces agent mourning the disappearance of his wife (Chan), gets recruited for a mission: to track down and eliminate the Creator, the enigmatic architect of advanced AI who possesses a cryptic weapon capable of ending not just the war but humanity itself. As Joshua and his elite team traverse enemy territories, they stumble upon the world-ending weapon he’s been tasked to annihilate—a young child AI (portrayed by Voyles).
