Last April 13, 2013, on the way to Aliwan Festival, my wife and I decided to pass by Globe Lumpia House at Raon, Sta. Cruz, Manila. It’s been a while for me and 2 decades for my wife of not having one of the best “lumpiang sariwa” in town.
If I remember it right, the first time I had it was when I was in high school. That was 1970s. I always make it a point to have this fresh spring roll Philippine style when I’m in the area.
My recommend way of having it is with the crushed peanuts with sugar topping if you like it sweet. You have to inform the waiter when you order because they don’t put it as standard. Without the peanut is also good.
The lumpia is quite healthy because it’s composed mainly of vegetables!
You must have it with the sweet sauce and put also the hot sauce for an extra kick. I love it with lots of sauce. It makes it yummier!

Each piece cost only Php 16 (approximately. $ 0.40) and the softdrinks (only Sarsi is available) Php. 10. You can easily eat 2 pieces.
The place is a bit small and tight and can only seat less than 20 people at a time. It’s reasonably clean.

Globe Lumpia House is located at 740 Soler St. (also known as G. Puyat St), Sta. Cruz Manila. It is just near the corner of Quezon Boulevard corner Soler Street. If you are coming from Quezon Boulevard Quiapo Church side, go towards the Raon Electronics Area towards Avenida (Rizal Ave.) and you can see the signboard at the left side just a few meters away from the overpass landing. They pride themselves in not having any branches. This is the only one.
It was established in 1957 and was part of the Globe Theater. The theater is gone but the Globe Lumpia House is still there. A lot of celebrities once in a while pass by there to have their favorite lumpia. The late Dolphy and Cesar Montano loves this lumpia. On busy hours, you might have to wait for a seat. It is that popular!
They only serve lumpia, empanada, and Sarsi softdrinks.
So if you want to taste one of the best Filipino style fresh spring roll, try it out! I been eating it for decades and still love it!
