Healthy Summer Bod

Stop worrying about not being able to prepare for a summer body, what’s important is that you’re taking care of it NOW! Summer is actually a perfect time to workout while having fun so why sweat the small stuff when you can literally, *sweat* while having a good time!

Working out in the summer heat can actually help you burn more calories if you’re losing weight! What’s best is that during summer, a lot of people try outdoor adventures and hobbies that they can only do during this season—it’s a great time to find new hobbies that suit you best. Here are some ideas:

  1. Try a new sport! There are a lot of communities out there that can help and accompany you on your journey (hiking, running, cycling, to name a few).
  2. Do your workout and meditation outside! Doing your workout outside can be a lot of fun—find a chill, nice place where you can move around freely and/or lay your workout/meditation equipment. Connect with nature while reducing stress.
  3. Join festivals and/or concerts! A great part of summer is that there are a lot of people partying and celebrating—a great way to be out there and meet new friends! Become active by doing something fun while also being around people.
  4. Volunteer on various programs and organizations! What’s more fulfilling than being active while also being able to help others? Try and search for volunteer programs around your area and find something that suits your skills and talents—offer help with something you’re actually good at.

Skin & Hair Care

Summer can also have a lot of risks! From dehydration, to sunburn, to worsening rashes, and breakouts, summer heat can be very brutal to our skin, hair, and overall health so it’s best to ensure that our body gets only the best care to avoid a lot of these risks.

We don’t want to miss out on a lot of summer festivities so we also always have to come prepared and well nourished! Here are some skin and hair care tips that can help you avoid sunburns and keep your outer you healthy and well-hydrated:

  1. Prioritize Sun Protection! Apply sunscreen with a high SPF of at least 30 to your whole body, even on days that are not too hot. Reapply as many times as needed (especially when swimming/swimming).
  2. Make using hats and umbrellas a habit! Helps offer a very crucial protection against unwanted UV rays and avoid unnecessary sunburns. Help yourself stay cool by ensuring proper protection that can shield you from the scorching heat of the summer Sun.
  3. Hydration! For hair care, deep conditioning as much as you can can help make frizz go away! Use hydrating shampoos that aren’t cruel to your hair and only use it on your scalp. For skin, apply lotion with a good amount of spf even when you are not going out! Moisturize all the time and use light serums to replenish moisture.
  4. Cleanse and exfoliate! Exfoliating 1-3 times a week to prevent clogging your pores but make sure to have a gentle exfoliator to avoid skin irritation. Use gentle cleansers in the morning to remove oil built up and double cleanse during the night especially when you wear makeup.
  5. Relax and use a mask! Spa days shouldn’t always be extra and hard, a simple hair and/or face mask can help you hydrate, nourish, and repair. Avoid dryness, irritation, and dullness by trying out new skin and hair care products such as masks! Detoxify from time to time by choosing the best masks that your hair and skin will grow accustomed to.

Healthier food & beverage consumption

Trying to beat the heat? Quench your thirst and satisfy your cravings by food and beverages that are beneficial to your body. Beating the heat can be hard but it doesn’t have to be, especially in the long run! Our bodies need to be able to adapt to the summer season’s unpredictable weather and how will we be able to do that if we’re always relying on food and drinks that are not good and beneficial to us?

Beating the heat can always be enjoyable but we don’t need highly processed and high on sugar treats all the time to keep us from getting hot! Healthy options and alternatives can be fun too! Here are some ideas on what to consume and avoid  during the summer season:

  1. Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate! Need I say more? Make sure to have a lot of water throughout the day but hydration doesn’t just come with plain water! Load up on fruits and vegetables that are rich in water content too—watermelon, cucumber, orange, tomatoes, apples, to name a few!
  2. Enjoy chilled beverages but avoid dehydrating ones! Beat the heat with cool, frozen drinks that are easily accessible such as; herbal teas, fruit juices, and smoothies but avoid or limit drinks that would just dehydrate your body such as; alcohol, coffee, and carbonated drinks.
  3. Avoid eating food that has been left out for too long! Everything spoils a lot faster during this season. Avoid bacterias that thrive in the heat and illnesses by simply ensuring that the things you consume are being consumed immediately after being opened or at least, stored in a cool, protected place.
  4. Learn what your body needs! Avoid food that you are allergic to and know the ones that your body doesn’t need or is not capable of digesting as it can only make you feel worse especially during the hottest days of the season. The food and beverages we consume doesn’t have to be complicated but it also shouldn’t be harmful so why not load up on something that not only can help you endure this summer season but can also make you feel good inside and out?

There are a lot of ways to beat the summer heat and there are also a lot of ways to figure out your goals this summer season. These are only ideas that can help you figure out the things you need to get ready for for this year’s summer season. From working out and meditating, to proper skin and hair care, and to consuming good food, each and everyone of us has different needs and what might work for you might not work for other people so it is crucial to also search and know the things we like and are accustomed to. What matters is that you’re taking a step forward to finding your favorite version of yourself!
