Spectrum, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Manila Electric Company (Meralco), has energized Alphatech Development Corporation’s first solar-powered facility, supporting the latter’s push for sustainable business operations.
Officials from the two companies on May 25 led the inauguration of the 856.80 kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar rooftop project at Alphatech’s manufacturing plant in Guiguinto, Bulacan.
The project is expected to generate approximately 1,125,835 kWh of clean energy every year and will allow Alphatech to save about PhP3.3 million in energy costs annually.
The company will likewise reduce its carbon footprint by an estimated 802 metric tons, which translates more than 82,000 trees planted and 3,194,070 kilometers reduced in vehicle travel per year.
“Today’s inauguration is a huge win for our company and our community. I’ve laid out the challenge to our company’s leadership team to seek ways to drive environmental sustainability in our day-to-day operations, and this is a major step in that direction,” Allan Keith G. Castro, Alphatech Senior Vice President, said during the inaugural ceremony.
Alphatech is a unit of Plastimer Group of Companies, which is a provider of plastic products and services in the country.
To further its sustainability efforts, the Plastimer Group is also seeking ways to expand its capabilities to reuse the plastic resin of its products after they reach their useful life. It is also improving the open spaces at its plants by turning them into parks and sanctuaries.
Spectrum Chief Operations Officer Patrick Henry T. Panlilio, meanwhile, said: “We thank Alphatech for entrusting Spectrum with its first solar project. Working in a highly competitive industry requires efficiency to cut down costs and resiliency to survive changes in regulations and we are glad that we are able to help Alphatech find solutions to achieve operational efficiencies using clean energy generated from this solar project. This is just the first step in its journey towards more sustainable operations.”
“Consistent with Meralco’s mandate to promote and utilize clean and sustainable energy sources, we strive to provide our customers with safe, affordable and reliable solar solutions. We do this by keeping our supply chain efficient and maintaining high standards in parallel with quality control measures for each step of our end-to-end service. We hope that this is just the beginning of a long and fulfilling sustainability journey for Alphatech which we, in Spectrum, would be more than happy to support,” he added.
Alphatech joins the roster of international and local companies that engaged Meralco and Spectrum to advance their sustainability goals through clean energy.
Spectrum offers tailor-fit solutions for industrial, commercial, and residential customers through an in-depth understanding of energy consumption behaviors and strategic partnerships with world-class technology partners.
Backed by Meralco’s energy expertise and proven safety track record, the renewable energy company has been providing services and solutions to help customers reduce their costs while taking part in saving the planet.
