On December 6 the PWD-Led Non-Profit organization Alagang Akay Foundation with the Sol Aragones Foundation gave out 500 Wheelchairs, and Christmas gifts to the PWD’s of Lucena, Quezon and it’s surrounding territories, held at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City, Quezon.
This event also coincides with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2022 which the United Nations set on December 3, 2022 with the theme of “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world”
Being a PWD is not an easy task as we should all know, and some disabilities aren’t even visible and these Non-visible disabilities are the like of ADHD, Respiratory, Cardio, and Bi-Polar just to name a few. But for disabilities that are visible, getting around could be difficult and sometimes even impossible. So with the help of the Akay Foundation and Sol Aragones Foundation, we are enabling those with these Disabilities to get around easier and enabled them to do more.
The Alagang Akay Foundation is PWD-led and founded non-profit organization on a mission to uplift the quality of life and uphold the dignity of PWDs through a holistic approach that includes, direct care, education, livelihood, employment as well as opportunities for community service.
This the holistic approach that Algagang Akay Foundation has.
- By tapping medical and other professionals in assisting PWDs and making medical technologies and other innovations accessible to them; such innovations include the Xtern™ AFO, a game-changer for people afflicted with foot drop, and a life-changing innovation that has been a major inspiration for AKAY,
- By tapping community leaders to help identify, screen, and prioritize those who will immediately benefit from specific assistance and interventions,
- By collaborating with organizations, both government and private, who are able to provide education, training, and work opportunities for PWDs so as to afford them the dignity of a productive life; one that contributes to their families, communities, society, and humanity indeed.
The Sol Aragones Foundation is founded and led by former ABS-CBN News Anchor, and 3 Term Former Congresswoman Sol Aragones, and one of her initiatives is to help PWD’s of The Philippines in any way she can.
