As part of the celebration of SM’s 65th anniversary, employees from the SM Retail group conducted a corporate social reponsibility (CSR) Day. Nearly a thousand employees nationwide dedicated their time and skills to giving back to the community, contributing a total of 6,500 volunteer hours.
SM employees engaged in activities such as classroom repainting, gardening, clean-up drives, feeding programs, book reading sessions, and donating shoes. A total of 7,375 pairs of shoes gathered from the Shop and Share program conducted at SM Stores nationwide were distributed.
With the support of shoppers, shoes were given to the SM Foundation and SM Store partner schools, local government units, and select non-government organizations.
The Philippine School of the Deaf in Pasay City, near the SM Headquarters, was the recipient of 690 pairs of shoes. Additional donations from SM Retail and its affiliates were given on top of employee volunteer activities that included vegetable gardening and the painting of the four classrooms at the Henry Sy, Sr. Building. The SM CSR Day is an annual employee volunteerism activity aimed to deepen enmployee engagement and participation in giving back to communities.
