In their mission to inspire youth to become agents of change, SM Cares and the Global Peace Foundation (GPF) recently wrapped up the Visayas leg of the 2024 Global Youth Summit (GYS). The event was held from May 25 to May 28 at SM City Iloilo Southpoint, SM City Bacolod, and SM City Cebu.
This year’s summit, encompassing 17 legs, aims to represent each of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Each location focused on a specific SDG, offering insightful talks and engaging activities to empower the youth.
SM City Iloilo launched the Visayas leg on May 25, with a focus on UN SDG 13: Climate Action. The event attracted over 2,000 attendees and included a performance by the popular P-Pop group Alamat, captivating the audience and setting an inspiring tone for the summit.
On May 26, SM City Bacolod focused on UN SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, attracting nearly 600 attendees. The discussions emphasized sustainable practices and responsible consumption, encouraging youth to adopt and advocate for these principles within their communities.
The final event of the Visayas leg was held at SM City Cebu on May 28, focusing on UN SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being. Nearly 400 attendees participated, gaining valuable insights into health and wellness and understanding its crucial role in personal and economic development.
Each leg of the summit featured invited speakers who delved deeper into the UN SDG issues, highlighting critical aspects and providing valuable insights to inspire and empower the youth.
