In a bid to foster inclusivity and accessibility in e-commerce, Shopee, the nation’s largest online shopping platform, has joined forces with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to facilitate the onboarding of Halal food vendors onto its platform. This collaborative effort aims to bolster support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), making Halal products readily available online for both sellers and consumers. It also aligns with Shopee’s objective of empowering niche businesses to expand their digital footprint and broaden their market reach.
The partnership primarily focuses on educating potential sellers about Shopee’s onboarding process, ensuring a seamless experience for newcomers to the e-commerce platform. These onboarding sessions delve into various aspects such as product listing guidelines, user interface navigation, and strategic business insights, equipping sellers with the necessary tools to thrive in the digital marketplace.
Halal food products adhere to Islamic dietary laws, following specific production protocols. Convenient access to these items is crucial for individuals with religious dietary obligations and those who prefer ethically sourced food.
“At Shopee, our dedication to fostering inclusivity for both sellers and consumers is unwavering. Our collaboration with the DTI to onboard Halal food sellers is in line with our commitment to supporting MSMEs and offering diverse choices to our users. This marks another stride in empowering businesses of all sizes and types to succeed in the digital landscape,” affirmed Vincent Lee, Head of Shopee Philippines.
“The partnership with Shopee is a significant step in enhancing the online visibility of Halal products. This collaboration further reinforces DTI’s commitment to fostering economic growth and ensuring that MSMEs offering Halal-certified products have the tools and resources to adapt to a dynamic market,” expressed Director Marievic M. Bonoan of DTI.
