Josh Cullen, who just announced that he will be attending the Round Festival in South Korea this year, is continuing to roll with the release of his new song, “Sumaya,” under Sony Music Entertainment.
“Sumaya” skillfully repackages R&B, trap, pop, and bedroom hip-hop with minimalism, revealing gratifying folds and layers as it goes. It delivers a somber reflection on acceptance and heartbreak. This tune, which is raw and conveys the unpleasant realities of a broken relationship, is genuinely created with the other person’s independence and happiness in mind.
According to Josh, Sumaya is about the agonizing process of realizing when it’s time to say goodbye to a loved one and the experiences you have together. The song explores the anguish and sorrow of saying goodbye to a partner while yet remembering the happy moments shared.
The lead rapper and vocalist of SB19 claims that the lyrics address the melancholy sensation of saying goodbye and remembering a past love that seemed genuine and life-affirming. Josh skillfully and subtly shows that he can write songs that resonate with listeners with the line “kapag naihatid ka, di na kita susunduin.”
Josh describes the production process as one in which he and his co-producer, Kael, took great care to capture the emotional depth and bittersweet nature of “Sumaya.” Josh even made a few last adjustments to ensure that everything felt just right, striking a balance between form and intricacies and the sincere intent of his songwriting style. Subsequently, the skilled group at Tribute Collective intervened to rearrange it while including their distinct style.
Alongside the song’s release, Josh Cullen plays the lead role in a music video. The P-Pop star is shown in the images waking up from the artifacts of the past and enabling himself to travel back in time to a time when life was full of love and sunny optimism before realizing that everything is simply an illusion that he must deal with.
According to Josh, “I wake up in a house full of the most significant memories of my life, memories of someone I love deeply,” in the music video for Sumaya. These things begin to crumble as soon as I touch them, and I know it’s all my fault.
As I go, I discover that I’m alternating between the real world and nothing at all, trying to get away from the intense confusion and feelings that are occurring all at once. I realize I have to accept and let go of the things I cannot control, even if I never want to forget these memories. Jonathan Tal Placido and Josh Cullen directed the music video. “Huge shout out to Miko del Rosario as well,” continues the Yoko Na act.
During those late-night editing sessions, he remained with me.
Despite the tight schedule and lack of sleep, it was not as difficult as I had feared. We were having fun, and their enthusiasm and effort made the entire experience quite rewarding.” Josh Cullen’s song “Sumaya” is available now on all digital music platforms worldwide.
