In a spectacular showcase of cultural richness and festive spirit, Discovery Samal recently concluded its Chinese New Year celebration, marking the onset of the Year of the Wood Dragon. The event, held on February 10, 2024, unfolded as a harmonious fusion of traditional performances and modern festivities.
Under the visionary leadership of General Manager Stanley Lau, Discovery Samal aimed to recreate the vibrant essence of the Lunar New Year. Collaborating with the Engineering and Housekeeping departments, the lobby area was adorned with enchanting red and gold lanterns, with a traditional Siheyuan house placed at its center.
The Lunar New Year festivities kicked off with an energetic performance by the renowned Davao Lion Dancers Association. Bedecked in vibrant costumes, the dancers made a captivating entrance into the main lobby, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of traditional music. GM Stanley Lau and Ms. Maridol Gonzalez then performed the mesmerizing Eye-Dotting ceremony, imbuing the dragon and lions with blessings of protection, luck, health, and prosperity. This ceremony was followed by the symbolic tossing of coins, an age-old tradition believed to invite good fortune, ushering in the Year of the Wood Dragon with optimism and hope.
A highlight of the celebration was the enthralling performance by the Davao Lion Dancers Association. Their vibrant lion and dragon dance brought the ancient art to life, enchanting guests with rhythmic drum beats and graceful movements. This dance, believed to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck, captivated all present as the dancers traversed the resort, spreading the essence of luck and prosperity.
Hearts were further captivated by the enchanting performances of Davao Chong Hua High School’s Chinese Cultural Dancers, who mesmerized guests with traditional Chinese dances, offering a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Chinese culture. The dedication and skill of the students added an extra layer of authenticity to the festivities, further enriching the cultural experience.
Guests also participated in a fortune-telling session with prominent fortune teller Dario Lingcopenes from Davao City, providing insights into health, career, and prosperity for the upcoming year.
