During its 2024 media preview event in Las Vegas, realme made the official announcement that the upcoming realme 12 Pro Series will feature a flagship periscope telephoto lens. Attendees at the event were given a firsthand look at the highly anticipated realme 12 Pro Series, as the globally renowned smartphone brand showcased its cutting-edge periscope telephoto technology and elegant watch design. Some even speculated that it could emerge as the leading imaging phone in its category.
This announcement came in the wake of a recently issued open letter from Sky Li, the founder and CEO of realme, proclaiming 2024 as the year of rebranding. Alongside this declaration, the company unveiled its new slogan: “Make it real.” Notably, this media event served as realme’s initial official communication post-rebranding. With the new slogan positioning realme as a tech brand that deeply understands young users, the realme number series is also slated to be positioned as the future of Next-gen Imaging.
Empowering Young Users with Next-gen Imaging Through The Flagship Periscope Telephoto Lens
As per realme’s research, young users are increasingly favoring telephoto lenses with 3X zoom or more over just 2X. The demand for high zoom levels in slim phones has led to the recognition that a periscope telephoto is the only viable solution.
Despite the typically high costs and technical challenges associated with this technology, usually reserved for flagship smartphones, realme is dedicated to bridging this gap. The aim is to make flagship-exclusive periscope telephoto technology accessible to a broader audience of young users.
In pursuit of this goal, realme has developed a proprietary periscope telephoto formula, ensuring top-quality imaging across various conditions. This formula made its debut in the realme GT5 Pro, launched globally in November 2023, and positioned the telephoto performance of the realme GT5 at the forefront of the industry. The upcoming realme 12 Pro Series will adopt the same approach, combining a leading sensor size, a high-performance platform, and an advanced algorithm to deliver superior imaging performance.

Moreover, this series sets a new standard in telephoto capabilities, offering an impressive 120X digital zoom. When it comes to sensors, the realme 12 Pro Series boasts the segment’s largest periscope telephoto sensor, featuring the OV64B flagship sensor that surpasses competitors and rivals other top-tier flagships. With a 1/2-inch size, it surpasses the telephoto sensor in the iPhone 15 Pro by more than twice. The larger aperture and increased light intake make the realme 12 Pro Series’ telephoto lens nearly three times more light-sensitive than that of the iPhone 15 Pro.

Additionally, the realme 12 Pro Series is equipped with a periscope telephoto and ultra-wide-angle camera, enabling lossless zoom at 0.6x, 1x, 2x, 3x, and 5x. This provides users with a full-focal-length lossless zoom photographic experience comparable to that of flagship devices.
