Have you ever wondered as a film enthusiast that you’re born in the wrong generation? Have you ever wished that you were born in an era when your favorite films are released and got to watch them on the big screen?
Great news, cinephiles! This incoming November 17 – 26, 2022, you’ll be able to watch Filipino director Mike de Leon’s critically-acclaimed horror films “Itim” and “Kisapmata” along with Wong Kar Wai’s timeless film “In The Mood for Love.”
This is to fulfill QCinema’s agenda to screen restored classics by world-renowned directors in the Philippines and nearby territories regularly. It is very important to maintain the public’s interest in films.
“Itim” (The Rites of May) (1976) is Mike de Leon’s debut film about a young photographer from Manila named Jun who decides to go back to his hometown to visit his paralyzed father. As he is a photographer, he decided to document the residents of the hometown’s Holy Week rituals in the province while he is there. As he wanders the town, he met Teresa, a mysterious woman who tells him about her dead sister Rosa, whom she claims is haunting her.
Timeless indeed, Itim’s restored version also had a soldout screening recently at Cannes Film Festival in Italy. Undoubtedly, it was applauded by critics present at the screening.
Another De Leon classic that is set to be screened is Kisapmata (In the Wink of an Eye) (1981.) Kisapmata is inspired by Nick Joaquin’s “The House on Zapote Street,” a murder-suicide story about the Cabading family in 1961.
These two films are perfect to watch if you want to give yourself a post-Halloween scare, as these psychological horror films Itim and Kisapmata will give you that chills!
However, if you would like to watch QCinema with your lover or simply with your co-Wong Kar Wai enthusiast, you might want to watch the restored version of “In the Mood for Love!”
Wong’s In the Mood for Love (2000) is a bittersweet story about two neighbors, Su Li-zhen and Chow Mo-wan. Chow is a journalist by profession and Su is a secretary in a shipping company. Both of their spouses are always away and were later found cheating with each other. As they were always left alone and unloved by their spouses, they built a bond and later, romance. However, none of them pursued their feelings for each other as they do not want to be like their cheating spouses.
These aforementioned films will be screened in QCinema’s Digitally Restored Classic Section, so if you’re in the mood to watch these classics, regularly check QCinema’s official website or Facebook page.
