PÜPA Struggles Between Home and Ambition in New Single ‘DPTA’

Musician and painter Püpa Dadivas channels her inner conflict about chasing dreams in her debut single, “DPTA.”

“‘DPTA’ is actually a curse word in Ilonggo/Hiligaynon. It naturally slips out when I’m frustrated,” explained the new Tarsier Records artist.

Püpa revealed that she fused Filipino, English, and Ilonggo in the song to express the frustration of taking risks while longing for the familiarity of home.

“I wrote it at a time when I felt torn between chasing my dreams and staying in my comfort zone. The frustration is a constant push and pull—some days, it takes over my whole being, and all I can say is ‘DPTA,’” she shared.

The track was composed by Püpa and produced by Ken Ponce.

Hailing from Roxas City, the 25-year-old singer-songwriter blends traditional pop and Asian pop influences in her music while also exploring indie and alternative genres. She has previously released songs like “Dead Flower,” “Dumbfounded,” “Make Me,” and “heels.”

“I see creativity as a way to express emotions I can’t say out loud. Whether through painting, acting, or music, my work is a fusion of my experiences. I believe that sadness and frustrations can be transformed into art,” she reflected.

Beyond music, Püpa is also an actress, having starred in the Ilonggo film “Candè” alongside JC Santos. She has also competed in Miss Universe Philippines 2022 and participated in a reality singing competition in 2023.
