PHOTO # 5 – DIM
After office hours, I decided to pass by Trinoma Mall before going home. It’s actually one of my favorite mall to do street photography because it’s a bit quieter compared other malls.
I passed by the Dimension furniture and decor shop and saw in their window the letterings on the glass display:
I got an idea of a concept to shoot through the lettering. Initially I tried finding something interesting and create the depth for the concept “Dimension” or plane in different dimensions. However, while shooting I read the top part of the sign that spells dim. The lightbulb in brain lit and thought about word play. Wordplay is putting a twist, juxtaposition, contrast, similarity comparison using the word in the photo + another element.
I saw the lamp shades and the lights that seems to be the ideal additional element to portray “DIM” (darkness) and light. I decided to use the f/1.8 aperture to get enough light to shoot handheld and also to make the lights unfocused to make it more interesting.
