Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Paula Ortiz (The Bride, De tu ventana a la mía), the movie is produced by María Zamora (Elástica Film) and Stefan Schmitz (Avalon), with a screenplay by Eduard Sola and Clara Roquet.

A Story of Ambition and Rebellion

The Red Virgin tells the extraordinary true story of Hildegart, a prodigy shaped by her mother Aurora to become the ideal “woman of the future.” By the 1930s, Hildegart emerges as one of Spain’s brightest minds and a European authority on female sexuality.

At 18, Hildegart begins to assert her independence, exploring newfound freedoms and forming a romantic connection with Abel Velilla. Through this relationship, she discovers an emotional world that challenges her mother’s strict control.

Aurora, unable to bear the idea of losing her influence, takes extreme measures to keep Hildegart under her sway. The mother-daughter power struggle culminates on a fateful summer night in 1933, bringing the “Hildegart Project” to a shocking and tragic conclusion.

Paula Ortiz’s direction promises to capture the film’s intense emotional core, set against the backdrop of 1930s Spain—a period rife with societal and ideological shifts. Combining psychological tension with sweeping period drama, The Red Virgin is poised to resonate deeply with audiences worldwide.
