Prime Video’s exciting lineup for the upcoming year includes new action series and comedy films, season renewals and sequels, and more sports content.
On May 14, Amazon held its inaugural upfront presentation in New York, spotlighting the extensive offerings of Prime Video, the world’s largest ad-supported premium streaming service, featuring contributions from acclaimed talents in film, television, and sports.
“None can match the reach of premium entertainment that we offer,” stated Mike Hopkins, senior vice president and head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. “Our audience is not just numbers; they’re deeply engaged viewers passionate about our diverse selection of programming, including live sports, series, and films.”
Prime Video boasts a monthly ad-supported audience of over 200 million globally, with over 115 million in the United States alone.
Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, remarked, “Welcome to the next hundred years of Amazon MGM Studios. Only Amazon has the capability to delve into intellectual property and ignite new fascinations across various media such as books, podcasts, music, fashion, and games. Here is a look at the upfront’s biggest moments and announcements across TV, films, and sports:
Road House sequel
Onstage, star Jake Gyllenhaal joined Salke to commemorate the triumph of Amazon MGM Studios’ original film Road House, which has garnered nearly 80 million views since its premiere on March 21 on Prime Video.
Salke disclosed that Gyllenhaal will reprise his role as ex-UFC fighter Dalton in a sequel currently in development at the studio.
The Boys
The Boys has been picked up for a fifth season, ahead of its Season Four premiere June 13 on Prime Video.
Cross
The heart-racing thriller Cross, featuring Aldis Hodge and inspired by the characters from James Patterson’s acclaimed Alex Cross book series, has been greenlit for a second season prior to its premiere later this year.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith
The celebrated series Mr. & Mrs. Smith, created and executive produced by Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane, has been renewed for a second season. Premiering on February 2, the eight-episode series swiftly ascended to the top spot on Prime Video in over 130 countries.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
Audiences were whisked back to Middle-earth as they received an exclusive glimpse of the highly anticipated second season of the acclaimed series. The series’ first season achieved unparalleled global acclaim, emerging as one of Prime Video’s top original series. It captivated over 100 million viewers worldwide and fueled a surge in Prime sign-ups during its debut window, surpassing all previous content to date.

Elle
Elle, the Legally Blonde prequel series, delves into the origin tale of Elle Woods and is produced by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, a division of Candle Media.
The series is helmed by creator Laura Kitrell (known for High School and Insecure), who serves as showrunner and executive producer. Joining her are executive producers Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky, and Marc Platt.
Noir
Nicolas Cage, an Academy Award winner, is set to lead in Noir, an upcoming live-action original series produced by the team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Adapted from the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir, the series will premiere on the MGM+ linear channel before launching globally on Prime Video across more than 240 countries and territories.
Tomb Raider
Phoebe Waller-Bridge is set to pen and executive produce a fresh series inspired by the beloved video game franchise. Titled Tomb Raider, the series chronicles the exploits of renowned archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft. Amazon MGM Studios will soon launch a global search to cast this iconic role. This venture is part of a collaboration between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios, stemming from dj2’s first-look agreement with the studio, aimed at expanding the Tomb Raider universe with additional series and films.
Additionally, Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games have previously announced a partnership to develop and release a new Tomb Raider game across multiple platforms.
You’re Cordially Invited
Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell unveiled a sneak peek of their upcoming comedy movie, You’re Cordially Invited.
In the film, Witherspoon portrays a woman orchestrating her sister’s dream wedding, while Ferrell takes on the role of a father to a soon-to-be bride. They discover they’ve both booked destination weddings at a secluded resort on an island off the coast of Georgia, leading to hilarious complications.
Thursday Night Football
The 2024-25 season of Thursday Night Football will kick off with a huge AFC rivalry match-up, as Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills visit Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins on Thursday, September 12.
NASCAR
Prime Video revealed that it will kick off on May 25, 2025, with the legendary night race, the Coca-Cola 600, serving as its inaugural exclusive NASCAR Cup Series event. The race will be broadcast live from Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Sports documentaries
Prime Video greenlit four new sports documentaries, including:
- A four-part documentary on NASCAR icon Dale Earnhardt Sr.
- A four-part series chronicling the history of the Madden video game franchise
- An anthology series about the most epic Game 7s throughout sports history
- A true-crime documentary about ChiefsAholic, the notorious Kansas City Chiefs superfan and serial bank robber
Prime Video also announced a June 20 premiere date and released a teaser trailer for Federer: Twelve Final Days, a feature-length documentary chronicling the final 12 days of Roger Federer’s professional tennis career.
