Philippines Secures Silver Pencil Award in 3rd Midea International HVAC Design Contest

Following extensive deliberation and fierce competition, DCCD Engineering Corporation, a leading engineering firm in the Philippines, emerged triumphant among 183 entries spanning 8 countries at the 3rd Midea International HVAC Design Contest. The firm’s Ayala North Exchange project secured the prestigious Silver Pencil Award, recognizing its outstanding project design and innovative approach to heating, ventilation, and air cooling (HVAC) systems.

Themed “Ensoul Building,” the Midea HVAC Design Contest, now in its third year, revolves around the concept that “the building is the carrier of life, and life is the soul of the building.” Since its inception in China in 2002, the Midea International HVAC Design Contest has evolved into a highly influential and representative event in the country’s HVAC industry.

DCCD Engineering Corp.’s winning entry is a two-tower office facility boasting a combined Gross Leasable Area of approximately 56,000 square meters, strategically located in the heart of the Makati Central Business District. Headed by Chief Mechanical Engineer Engr. Edwin Raganit, the winning team designed these office towers with a focus on accommodating both Multi-National and Business Process Outsourcing companies. Complementing the mixed-use development is a retail podium featuring 10,000 square meters of restaurants and shopping spaces, along with the 312-room Seda Hotel.

Engr. Raganit, emphasizing their commitment to sustainable development, expressed, “As an advocate for sustainable development, we have always been active in pursuing innovations for green buildings. We are very honored to receive the Silver Pencil Award as we continue to strive and set a benchmark for the real estate industry, demonstrating that the fusion of urban living and nature can lead to outstanding sustainable development.”

Other accolades in the contest included the Gold Pencil Award, Bronze Pencil Award for the Professional Group, Excellent Design Award for the Distributor Group, and the Design Expert Award for the Student Group, presented to Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Mexico, and Georgia, respectively.

Entries were evaluated based on technical details, system design, work authenticity, and time validity. Judges encouraged innovation and sustainability by considering energy-saving reports and awarding extra points for green building certifications, a BMS system, or a BIM model. The global awards ceremony is scheduled for November in China, where the international jury and top three winners of the Professional group will be present.

The winning projects were selected for their innovative designs seamlessly integrating life and building, embodying sustainability concepts, and serving as benchmarks for green, energy-saving, and intelligent HVAC industry development.

The Midea International HVAC Design Contest, with over 80,000 participants, has showcased design talents and energy-saving, low-carbon projects, transforming into a festival for HVAC designers, professionals, and students.
