A trip to Bohol wouldn’t be complete without seeing the gorgeous islands in Panglao. We’ve got insider tips on how to prep for an island hopping tour, so whether it’s DIY or booked through the airasia Super App, you’ll have an unforgettable experience.
The Panglao Island Hopping Tour features Balicasag Island, home to sea turtles, and is one of the richest marine sanctuaries in the Philippines. This tour also consists of dolphin watching, turtle watching and snorkeling in Balicasag Island, then a quick swim at Virgin Island. We’ve written down some tips to help you prep for this tour.
1. The dolphins don’t always make an appearance. Our guide explained that dolphins only come out when the sea is calm. The best time to see them is in the morning, so you have to leave the beach at around 6:00-6:30 am. It’s not 100% guaranteed that you’ll spot one, but when you do, we promise that waking up at dawn will have been worth it.
2. Virgin Island is best visited during low tide. For now, only a section of Virgin Island is open to tourists. The island was damaged during Typhoon Odette. Repairs are yet to be completed. There are floating restaurants that serve sea urchins and abalone. Time your tour so you arrive when the tide is low.
3. Balicasag Island gets crowded, but it’s worth the wait. Home to sea turtles and one of the richest marine sanctuaries in the Philippines it’s a destination not to be missed. Hire a guide who knows how to operate a GoPro and ask to be taken to the gorge (bangin) for the best photos. It costs 1,500 php to hire a guide, which includes his talent fee, the GoPro rental and an SD card where all your photos and videos will be stored. Tell the guide to take videos instead of photos, and just take stills from those videos.
Lastly, please don’t feed the fish. It’s common practice on the island to attract the fish, but there’s a lot to fish swimming around even without drawing them with Skyflakes.
