Japanese fashion brand Onitsuka Tiger continues to present a yellow collection that combines fashion with sports, and heritage with innovation.
At Milan Fashion Week, Onitsuka Tiger unveiled its 2024 Autumn/Winter Yellow Collection under the theme “Urban Winter.” The collection, crafted with made in Japan apparel, captures the essence of urban winter landscapes, featuring a wet coating finish reminiscent of sudden thunderstorms in Tokyo.
The color palette showcases iconic yellow alongside metropolitan gray, black, beige, and hazelnut. Innovative techniques sculpt silhouettes with a fresh twist across the entire collection. Coats, jackets, and peacoats highlight the contrast between broad shoulders and a narrow waist, accentuated by tailoring details like tube padding and ribbing. The introduction of a double cashmere hoodie suggests a novel layering concept, serving as outerwear over matching coats or blousons.
For men, the collection offers wide pants in extra-long or ankle-cut chino and 5-pocket styles, while women can explore stretchy slim-fit or oversized trousers. Micro skirts with flowing silhouettes and silk panel dresses adorned with shiny and matte paillettes embroidery pair effortlessly with wool socks and new creepers. Additionally, the debut of the brand’s first V-neck decollete with chunky high heels prioritizes both comfort and slip resistance. Innovative hybrid shoes combining rubber soles and trekking boots, as well as a double bag made of synthetic leather with an urban shoulder strap, further enrich the collection.
Marking the first show of the brand’s 75th anniversary year, a total of 49 looks were presented, paying tribute to Onitsuka Tiger’s founding year of 1949. Notably, the collection features a rib-knitted zip-neck wool wear inspired by the brand’s iconic track top, serving as a celebratory piece that can be styled as a modern scarf or an extreme crop top.
Before the show, the dance team “AVANT-GARDEY,” led by choreographer Akane, delivered a synchronized performance in eye-catching yellow uniforms and the MEXICO 66 SD shoes without Onitsuka Tiger stripes, paying homage to the movie “Kill Bill” and reflecting the brand’s modern interpretation of heritage. Internationally renowned pianist Yuja Wang performed on a customized piano wrapped in yellow by Steinway & Sons, with music specially composed for the show to embody the collection’s theme.
The Onitsuka Tiger showcase was graced by the presence of local luminaries including Heart Evangelista, Pia Wurtzbach, Sofia Andres, Camille Co, and Tim Yap, who adorned the event in the brand’s stunning collection, elevating the atmosphere with their presence.
