Last month, mxmtoon released her latest single, “i hate texas,” and now she’s unveiling the self-directed and self-edited music video for the track. The video, which features footage from Sophia Juliette’s recent North American tour opening for AJR, captures mxmtoon’s playful spirit and creative vision.

Reflecting on the video, mxmtoon says, “Creating the music video for ‘i hate texas’ was a return to my YouTube roots. It’s easy to think that music videos need to be overly polished and glossy, but sometimes, they can just be a collection of fun moments captured on Photo Booth. Making videos was one of my first loves online, and I’m thrilled to continue crafting the visual world for my music.”

The song “i hate texas” is a fiddle-infused track co-written with underscores. It blends poetic imagery with candid, straightforward lyrics, from “I haven’t left my apartment in a real long time/I’m making friends with the stars at night” to the blunt confession, “i hate texas/But the exits have more room to run away from you.”

Since she was 17, mxmtoon has crafted irresistibly catchy pop tunes that delve into the nuanced and tender emotions we often keep hidden. The Oakland native, now based in Nashville, has captivated a global audience with her raw self-expression. Her career has blossomed through collaborations with artists like Carly Rae Jepsen and Noah Kahan, alongside diverse projects such as hosting a podcast and authoring a graphic novel.

mxmtoon also contributed her musical talents to the LEGO and Guerrilla Games’ Horizon series with the track “post-post apocalyptic dance party.” This song creatively integrates elements from LEGO, the Horizon universe, and Joris de Man’s “Aloy’s Theme” into its 3-minute runtime. Collaborating with Kellen “Pom Pom” Pomeranz (GRAMMY Award-winning co-writer and producer), Laura Sisk (GRAMMY Award-winning engineer), and Heba Kadry (noted for work with Björk, Slowdive, and Ryuichi Sakamoto), the track boasts top-tier industry expertise. The strings were recorded at the prestigious AIR Studios in London by the same team behind the in-game score. mxmtoon’s music enjoys significant global reach, with her top streaming markets including Indonesia 🇮🇩, the Philippines 🇵🇭, and Malaysia 🇲🇾.
