The advent of smartphones has launched a million possibilities including watching your favorite movies anywhere, anytime. You just need an app and sign up to it, a good internet speed and you’re good to go! While most app offers foreign movies, there is one that promotes our very own Filipino movies. Honestly, our own flicks are harder to find. I have been looking for this app for a long time. Personally, I enjoy viewing love stories and memorize some lines as well. This is a big hit for us ladies. Who doesn’t know Bea and John Lloyd’s lines, right?
The MovieClub App is free and has a database that contains at least 580 local movies. What’s more is, fifteen to twenty new ones are added to the collection every two weeks. That will keep you glued to your mobile phone screens even more often. The categories are: Drama, Action, Adventure, Romance, Comedy, Horror, Suspense and Sci-Fi. Documentaries, short films, and Indie films are next on the list.
To keep the app free for all, local sponsorships are welcomed. The makers insist on going local all the way. The love for our own should be something we need to support. Full previews of local films are part of it too. If you’re interested in hearing your favorite Hollywood movie in Filipino then you can do as well. At this time, the MovieClub app is only available in the Philippines.
Movies are all streamed and not downloaded. Presently, the quality of the movies are in 240p and 360p. Resolution is scaled down for the moment but next month is a promise of upgrading to 480p which is more acceptable to the discerning eyes.
Movie Club will be featuring “Saving Sally” which is one of last year’s entries in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), directed by AVid Liongoren. During the launch of the MovieClub mobile app, he discussed how difficult it was to produce such movie and how long it took for it to be finished. Hard work paid off as it received great response not just from Filipinos but also from international movie fests. The said movie will be available in the app as soon as the period for new theatrical release is over.
The makers of the MovieClub app is planning to produce their own content. The good news, by the way, is they’re keeping the app free and not planning to make the app subscription based. Hooray!
