MOONTON Cares, in collaboration with the MPL Philippines Press Corps, is set to relaunch its Esports Journalism Program for the second year in a row, beginning with a session at National University Laguna from June 6 to 7.
The event expects over 100 participants who will gain insights into the booming esports industry from MPL Philippines members and the Philippine Esports Press Corps during the two-day workshop.
“We are thrilled to bring the MOONTON Cares Esports and Gaming Journalism Workshop to NU Laguna and its aspiring journalists,” said Keith Niño Medrano, Regional Public Relations Manager at MOONTON Games. “Our goal is to offer quality training through our partnership with the esteemed MPL Philippines Press Corps, providing participants with valuable knowledge and skills,” he added.
On the first day, Reynald Magallon from Manila Bulletin, a pioneer in MPL Philippines coverage, will introduce the basics of sportswriting. Michelle Lojo from Philstar.com will cover Media Ethics, emphasizing the principles that uphold journalistic integrity, while AC Coloma from ABS-CBN News will teach Mobile Journalism, showcasing how to utilize mobile devices effectively for news dissemination.
Day two will be led by Jules Elona, associate editor at ONE Esports, who will stress the importance of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) in journalism to increase the visibility and impact of esports content. Dethan Dario will discuss the role of Artificial Intelligence in journalism, focusing on its application in content creation and distribution. Additionally, XC Enriquez from Esports by Inquirer.net, Clutchpoints Gaming, and esports.gg will explore journalism in the age of TikTok.

This marks the second year of collaboration between MOONTON Games and MPL Philippines to advance esports journalism, following three successful sessions last year. Students from Ateneo de Manila University, University of the Philippines-Diliman, University of Sto. Tomas, Adamson University, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Lyceum of the Philippines University, National University-Laguna, and Cavite State University participated in last year’s program during MPL PH Season 12.
The initiative extended further with sessions at Adamson University and the University of the Philippines-Diliman.
