With High Expectations for New Endeavors of 129 Graduates who will Play a Key Role in the Future of Maritime Industry

TOKYO—Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), led by President & CEO Takeshi Hashimoto, announced that MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy Inc. (MMMA), a premier maritime training institution jointly operated by MOL and Magsaysay Maritime Corporation (MMC), held its 2nd commencement exercises on February 18.
The graduation ceremony took place at the MMMA campus in Dasmariñas City, a suburban area of Manila, attended by approximately 530 guests, including former Senator Manny Pacquiao and Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Endo Kazuya. Also present were Doris Magsaysay Ho, President and CEO of A. Magsaysay, Inc., and MOL Executive Vice President Toshiaki Tanaka. The event honored MMMA’s second batch of graduates, who successfully completed the full curriculum, including shipboard training, marking a significant milestone in their journey toward becoming skilled maritime professionals.

In his congratulatory speech, MOL Executive Vice President Toshiaki Tanaka extended his heartfelt gratitude to the school community and the families of the graduates for their unwavering support. Addressing the graduates, he encouraged them to apply the knowledge and skills they had acquired at the academy to excel in ensuring vessel safety. He emphasized, “Prioritizing safe operations is essential—not only to protect lives across the world but also to safeguard cargo, preserve the environment, and contribute to global progress.”

MOL Executive Vice President Toshiaki Tanaka marked the occasion by planting mango trees on the campus grounds—a symbolic gesture representing the academy’s continued growth and success, the prosperity of its stakeholders, and a commitment to environmental preservation.

Around half of the graduates will embark on their careers aboard MOL Group-operated vessels, assuming roles as third officers and third engineers upon obtaining their maritime licenses. As they gain experience, they will advance toward the ranks of captain and chief engineer.
Filipino seafarers remain an integral part of MOL Group’s global shipping operations, especially as maritime technology continues to evolve. Their expertise and dedication will play a crucial role in ensuring safe and efficient transport services. To meet these demands, MOL Group remains committed to developing highly skilled seafarers through MMMA’s rigorous four-year training and education program.
This initiative aligns with MOL Group’s sustainability goals, particularly its mission to train seafarers and create opportunities that drive personal and community growth. By fostering top-tier maritime professionals, MOL Group continues to uphold its commitment to safety and reliability, ensuring the smooth operation of global logistics as a responsible leader in the shipping industry.
