What jet lag? Reigning Miss International, Andrea Rubio landed in Manila on Wednesday evening, July 3, 2024, after an extensive cross-continental flight. Demonstrating her dedication and tireless energy, Rubio jumped straight into her busy schedule the following day.
A Day of Smiles and Stories
Rubio’s first full day in the Philippines kicked off early with a visit to Sta. Ana Hospital for a charity event with Operation Smile. She was joined by her third runner-up, Nicole Borromeo, and reigning Binibining Pilipinas, Angelica Lopez. Reflecting on the visit, Rubio shared, “We were there, we shared with the kids, and we learned more about Operation Smile and the amazing work they do.”
The day’s activities continued with a storytelling session at the Gateway Gallery, where Rubio engaged with children from World Vision Philippines. “I told a story to all the kids, and they were happy. I even learned a little bit of Filipino because the book had some English and Filipino. It was really cool,” she remarked. The children, thrilled by the storytelling session, later accompanied her to the Fiesta Carnival in Araneta City for an afternoon of fun and laughter.
Joyful Moments at Fiesta Carnival
Rubio was visibly delighted by the experience. “We shared a lot of laughs. It was pure joy! The kids were really happy, and I was really happy too. I definitely want to go again,” she said. Borromeo and Lopez also joined her at the Fiesta Carnival, further enhancing the joyous occasion. This event marked a significant moment as World Vision Philippines will receive P1 million from the Bb. Pilipinas Charities Inc. in celebration of the national pageant’s 60th anniversary.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Rubio also attended the rehearsals for the 2024 Bb. Pilipinas Grand Coronation Night, where she met the 40 contestants competing for the title. “It was a joy to see all of the girls. They were excited to meet me, and I was excited to meet them,” she shared. Rubio used this opportunity to talk about the significance of the Miss International title, sharing her insights and advice. “We discussed what Miss International is about and what winning this crown means to me. I also gave them tips on not just how to win, but how to enjoy the contest and have fun.”
Keeping the Energy High
When asked how she manages to maintain her energy despite the long travel, Rubio said, “I always say that this is a one-time opportunity. So we have to take all of that into account. Put on a nice smile, maintain a positive attitude, and do whatever you have to do to make the organization proud.”
Looking Forward to Bb. Pilipinas
Rubio is set to grace the Grand Coronation Night of the 2024 Bb. Pilipinas pageant at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Araneta City on Sunday, July 7, where she will help crown Angelica Lopez’s successor. Lopez is scheduled to compete in the 62nd Miss International pageant in Tokyo on November 12, aiming to inherit the title that Rubio currently holds.
With her vibrant energy and dedication, Andrea Rubio is undoubtedly leaving a lasting impression on her visit to the Philippines, showcasing the true spirit of Miss International.
