On the food I miss Hong Kong food a lot! Every single corner of Hong Kong, there’s always a good local restaurant. After a long night of working or clubbing, people go to these local restaurants like Tsui Wah for their Wonton noodles. Even the small ones along the streets are good! Here’s a small personal tip, when you go to a fancy restaurant, they would usually debone your meat. But when you get to the authentic ones, they don’t so the food is even tastier! On transportation One of the things that I miss the most are the ding dings. Super cheap and fast. Back when I was younger, it was only $1 for kids, and you can already get to places. MTR is also one of the best! They keep on expanding those lines even to places you don’t even think you’d want to go. They have one in Ocean Park and Disneyland, too. I would’ve gone there often if only they had built it already back then! |

On West Kowloon Cultural District Like you guys, I’ve been to Hong Kong and back since I was young but I really didn’t get to see its other side. West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD), a newly developed destination that took 20 years to build and came up with a beautiful space for people to appreciate the arts and culture. Everything is walking distance in WKCD. There are also a lot of cute cafes and third wave coffee specialty stores. On M+ Museum My husband has been wanting to go to a museum, but I just ignore him because I wanted to do other things like shopping and dining. But M+ museum is special. I was so engrossed during the entire tour; I wasn’t even checking my phone. I got to learn things I didn’t know I wanted to learn about. It’s all about visual arts and contemporary culture of Hong Kong. It’s good to see how people expressing themselves through art. It was so interactive that I would recommend it for everyone to visit, including kids. The museum will be exhibiting works from Yayoi Kusama from November in celebration of their first anniversary. On outdoor activities Like most tourists, I always go to same places. But when I moved there and met locals, we’d go on new trails every week. I love the Lan Tau Peak trail which I did it while I was pregnant with my second son. When you land, there are temples and Buddha exhibits that are so beautiful. If you want easier hikes, you can consider The Peak and Big Wave Bay. Kam Shan Country Park is another easy nature walk where you can take your kids and they can see monkeys all over. Of course, you’re not supposed to feed them. It’s also fun and convenient to wakeboard in Hong Kong. My husband and I took a 25-minutes taxi ride to Millionaire’s Bay where we wakeboard for 4 to 5 hours! Hong Kong makes a lot of things accessible with their dependable transportation. We went to Lamma Island where they don’t have cars. It’s a cool and indie place where we took time to explore. They have third wave coffee shops and vegan restaurants there. We also went to Sai Kung and Lower Cheung Sha beach where it feels like home when we meet fellow Kababayans there. |
