Los Angeles-based Amaré magazine has included renowned Filipino-American bag and accessory designer Maria Victoria Mejia in its prestigious Heroes of Change awards lineup. Mejia, the CEO and designer of Viktorya-Minaudière, was the only Filipino-American recognized among this year’s distinguished honorees.

The rising fashion entrepreneur was honored by Amaré on February 20 during a star-studded ceremony at Hotel Maya in Long Beach, California. The list of awardees also included notable figures such as KTLA News anchor Courtney Friel, acclaimed author Dr. Natasha Weems, and television personalities Jackie Christie and Renee Graziano—famous for their roles on Basketball Wives L.A. and Mob Wives, respectively.
Crafting Sustainable Luxury
Mejia’s brand, Viktorya-Minaudière, is known for its exquisitely designed bags crafted from premium shells, showcasing a perfect blend of elegance and sustainability. Amaré, a celebrated print and digital publication recognized for its chic content and high-profile events, praised Mejia’s dedication to exceptional craftsmanship, stating:

“Her commitment to craftsmanship and dedication to sustainable luxury make her a true inspiration and a deserving honoree at the Heroes of Change Awards.”
In response to the honor, Mejia expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying:
“I am filled with gratitude for this incredible opportunity. Being recognized and celebrated by Amaré Magazine means so much to me as it highlights the passion I have for my work.”
Pinay Pride on the Global Stage
Mejia’s meticulously designed bags and accessories have gained admiration from fashionistas, celebrities, and influential personalities across Southern California and beyond. Her designs have also been featured on the Golden Globes website and have graced high-profile events such as Los Angeles Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week.

Her creations have captivated audiences at major fashion events, including Asian Fashion Week, Metropolitan Fashion Week, and Orange County Fashion Week. Reflecting on her journey, Mejia said:
“This recognition serves as a reminder of why I do what I do and the impact I hope to make. I truly appreciate the support and encouragement from everyone who has been part of my journey. This moment inspires me to keep striving for excellence and to continue sharing my mission with others.”
She further emphasized the significance of her Filipino roots, adding:
“Being recognized as a Hero of Change on a global stage is an honor I will cherish forever. This prestigious award not only acknowledges my efforts but also highlights my roots and the importance of Filipino craftsmanship in redefining luxury.”
From Medical Professional to Fashion Icon
Before embarking on her journey in the fashion world, Mejia earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology in the Philippines and later pursued a career as a hospital laboratory professional in the United States. Her passion for fashion led her to launch her exclusive bag collection at the Philippine Fashion and Cultural Expo in Los Angeles in late 2022.
In 2023, her contributions to fashion and style were further recognized by The Outstanding Filipino Awards (TOFA) during its ceremony at Zipper Concert Hall in Los Angeles.
Empowering New Talents
Founded in 2016 by fashion expert George Rojas, Amaré magazine has built a reputation for championing empowerment, integrity, and philanthropy. Rojas emphasized the magazine’s mission to “shine a light on new and upcoming artists and entrepreneurs,” making Mejia’s recognition even more meaningful as she continues to elevate Filipino craftsmanship and artistry on the global stage.
