On March 8, 2014, “Manny”, the movie, will be premiering at the “Documentary Spotlight” genre of the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, U.S.A.
The movie was directed by Leon Gast and Ryan Moore. It’s a documentary about the inspiring life story of Manny Pacquiao, his rise from poverty to become a 10 time boxing world champion, a congressman, and an international icon.
Leon Gast, who also directed “When We Were Kings”, won an Oscar for best documentary feature (1996) for the film about the classic match between George Foreman and Muhammad Ali in 1974 held in Kinshaha, Congo.
Liam Neeson, narrates in this documentary movie “Manny” says he has been a fan of Manny for many years.
“What a boxer. He is one of the greats,” Liam said during his guesting at ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Manny has appeared on the Kimmel show a couple of times. Kimmel shared those moments as one of the guest celebrities interviewed for the movie.
Mark Wahlberg is another very vocal Pacquiao fan. He often visited the 8-division champion at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles whenever Pacquiao trains there. He even credited Manny as his model when he portrayed retired boxer Mickey “Irish” Ward in the “The Fighter” movie which Mark starred.
Other celebrities appearing in the documentary includes actor Jeremy Piven, boxers Oscar de la Hoya and Evander Holyfield, singer Dan Hill, respected sportswriters and boxing analysts. Manny’s friends and family also appeared in the movie.
“Manny”, the movie, opens in Philippine cinemas on March 12th nationwide and will be distributed by Solar Entertainment Corporation.
