Known as the Chocolate Queen, Raquel Choa’s passion has driven her to become a chocolatier. The Manila Hotel proudly carries her tablea in perfect gift boxes, sold at The Deli. There is no doubt that Ms. Choa is passionate about chocolate, and she threw herself into the art of making them. Growing up in the mountains of Balamban, as a kid she had to cross seven rivers every day just to get to school with just one cup of “sikwate” in the morning, which lasted her the whole day.
Ms. Choa quickly rose to the ranks and has become top of mind for local chocolate. Passionate about sustainable practices and fair trade, and about representing the country internationally, she worked hard to put the Philippines in the chocolate map, so to speak. She has been innovating and changing the chocolate landscape in the country. Armed with determination, she and a group of friends opened The Chocolate Chamber in 2016. In the same year, Ms. Choa represented the Philippines in the Le Salon de Chocolat in New York.
