Makati Celebrates Diversity and Inclusion with “Spread the Love, Makati!” Event

Makati City buzzed with excitement on July 27, 2024, as Mayor Abby Binay-Campos spearheaded the “Spread the Love, Makati!” event, a dynamic celebration of diversity, equality, and inclusion. From 10 AM to 9 PM, Makati Avenue and Barangay Poblacion were abuzz with enthusiastic participants taking part in a variety of engaging activities.

The event featured insightful discussions on inclusive development and cultural diversity, aimed at fostering a sense of community and shared understanding. It culminated in a vibrant concert, uniting attendees in a powerful display of joy and unity. Mayor Binay-Campos expressed her gratitude, emphasizing that the event was a testament to Makati’s dedication to inclusivity and community spirit.

The day was further enlivened by celebrity appearances and live performances that entertained and inspired the crowd. Heart Evangelista took the stage, sharing her thoughts on the significance of love and self-celebration: “We are here to celebrate love and to champion it,” she said, highlighting the unique qualities each individual brings.

Karen Davila also spoke on the importance of equality and inclusion, stressing that “Inclusion, diversity, and the belief in equality start at home.”

The event kicked off with enlightening talks on gender sensitivity, combating discrimination, and LGBTQIA+ health, setting the stage for a day filled with learning and fun. Attendees participated in workshops on drag makeup, styling, photography, and painting, making the event both creative and educational.

The celebration continued with a lively street fiesta, featuring a colorful march with LGBTQIA+ and ally groups. Performances by the Intensity Dancers, DJ sets by Moira Lang and Dignos, and an energetic vogue session led by Nunoy Revlon and his dancers added to the festive atmosphere.

Interactive workshops were a highlight of the event:

  • Drag Makeup Tutorial & Styling Workshop by Tiny Deluxe at Berjaya Hotel
  • Photography and Painting Workshop led by Niccolo Cosme at Hoesiki

The day’s lineup included compelling discussions:

  1. Understanding SOGIESC: Moderated by Janlee Dungca with panelists Jake Rol, Jap Ignacio, and Ross Tugade at St. Giles Hotel.
  2. Differentiated Care: Moderated by Benedict Bernabe with experts Dr. Lia Bernardo, Dr. Quincy Raya, and Dr. Deano Reyes at Coro Hotel.
  3. Pride in Business: Moderated by Chris Eugenio with panelists Bobby Batungbacal, Itchi Yabut, Junie Del Mindi, and Weena Ekid at City Garden Grand Hotel.
  4. Understanding Internal Discrimination: Moderated by Mori Rodriguez with panelists Ruel Bayani, Milo Sogueco, and Gitri San Diego at I’M Hotel.

The concert featured drag performances by the O Bar Queens and the House of Ding, musical acts by Mark Bautista and Nicole Laurel Asensio, and uplifting messages from equality champions, leaving everyone with a strong sense of unity and joy.
