The Philippines has weathered a lot of storms lately. Months and years later, the people affected are still trying to pick up the pieces and get some semblance of normalcy back in their lives. This is where AVA Prime Media & Events and the Philippine Life Insurance Association, Inc. come in, through their benefit concert series, Life ROCKS.
The goal is to raise funds to provide scholarships for children orphaned by Typhoon Yolanda and other recent calamities. Beneficiaries will be selected through the producer’s institutional partnership with the Museo Pambata and the scholarship program of the Manila Symphony Orchestra. The lives of the scholars will be followed for a year and will be showcased in a documentary.
Life ROCKS, Volume I will be held on October 23, 2014 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila. The approximately two-hour-long concert will be comprised of two acts. There will be breaks in between, and some messages from sponsor insurance companies promoting the value of life insurance in preparing for life’s uncertainties.
For the music selection, expect a mix of rock and mellow songs, focusing on Filipino music with positive messages. The songs chosen for the concert were based on suggestions of the performers themselves. This “celebration of OPM” will feature Imago, Sandwich, Radioactive Sago Project, Tres Marias, Razorback, Megan Aguilar, Ebe Dancel, and Marc Abaya, in collaboration with the Manila Symphony Orchestra.
Familiar OPM songs like Imago’s “Sundo” and “Akap” will be re-enhanced, orchestra style. This marriage of band and orchestra will hopefully bridge the gap between old and young audiences so that more people can appreciate the splendor of classical music.
Life ROCKS is just the first of many events that support the advocacy of THE LINEUP, a music lifestyle show created by AVA Prime Media & Events. The show will begin airing in November 2014 and its producers will soon announce which network will air the program.
AVA Prime’s co-producer for the concert series, the Philippine Life Insurance Association, Inc. (PLIA), is the umbrella organization of the thirty one life insurance companies we currently have operating in the country.
The first week of October was declared Life Insurance Consciousness Week (LICW) through Proclamation No. 1059, issued on August 20, 1997. The activities of 2014’s LICW revolved around the theme of disaster risk reduction and management. In line with the idea of disaster preparedness and response, PLIA have committed to donate a scholarship fund to finance ten high school students from the Typhoon Yolanda affected communities in Leyte for the school year 2015-2016. This was done through a Memorandum of Agreement with the Couples for Christ BCOP-ANCOP (Building the Church of the Poor-Answering the Cry of the Poor).
