For the first time in its 47 years of existence, the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) – the country’s foremost music competition, in partnership with National Commission for Culture and the Arts – is going online. With over 79 million active internet users in the country, the majority of which belongs to the youth sector, the movie promises to open the competition arena to more young artists.
Established in 1973, NAMCYA has proven to be an effective springboard in launching the careers of numerous young Filipino artists in various areas of musical performance, such as choral singing, piano, chamber music, family ensemble, and indigenous instruments.
Past NAMCYA winners that have gained both national and international acclaim include such brilliant performers as Rowena Arrieta, Coke Bolipata, Andion Fernandez, Rachelle Gerodias among others.
“The decision to conduct the competition online expresses NAMCYA’s effort to find resonance with today’s young Filipino musical artists who are increasingly turning to digital technology to find a venue for their talents.
