At 2pm on April 6, 2019, a bunch of young fans were getting ready to meet their idol. I felt ancient just looking at those girls. SM North EDSA’s activity center in The Block was cordoned off for the 4:30pm Happy Skin fitness party with Kathryn Bernardo.
There were plenty of activities to take part in during the wait. You could try out all the variants from the latest Generation Happy Skin ACTIVE line at the swatch stations. You could spin 2 kilometers on a Ride Revolution bike for a gift; post a selfie on social media, using Decathlon Philippines sports equipment as props, to get a hair tie; or grab a cold-pressed drink from the Pure Nectar stall.
Kathryn dubbed 2019 as a year of personal growth. Facing insecurities is one of her sources of growth as a person. She also wants to take care of herself. In line with this goal, she incorporated exercise into her life from the age of eighteen. But she wanted to look good even during her workouts, and this is where our homegrown beauty brand came in.
Kathryn felt she gained another family through her Happy Skin partnership, this being her second collaboration with the brand, and said she thought of co-founders Jacqe Yuengtian-Gutierrez and Rissa Mananquil-Trillo as sisters.
They worked together on this active line for active girls, deciding on the stick form for portability. The goal was easy-to-use makeup that’s good for the skin and won’t clog pores. Kathryn tested the products herself, taking them with her on trips and shoots to make sure the formulation worked with her sensitive skin.

Kathryn couldn’t help calling out to one of her fans, “Bakit hindi ka naka-active wear?” Yes, fan, the invite clearly stated: Come in your active wear.
Fitness First set up a game where teams of fans had to do a series of exercises as fast as they could, while maintaining proper form. After that, there was a seemingly never-ending hip-hop class. The emcee said she didn’t expect the session to be that intense. Kathryn added that she didn’t expect it to be so long, a sentiment her fans shared.
After many group photos, Kathryn thanked her fans for coming. She encouraged them to post their thoughts on the new makeup using #KathXHappySkin and to tag her and @happyskin_ph on social media.
