Esteemed songwriter and producer Jungee Marcelo has unveiled a reimagined rendition of “Kung Saan Ka Masaya,” featuring Sponge Cola as the lead single from his upcoming album “Anniverseries.”
The pop-rock track, originally composed by Jungee, was produced by Sponge Cola and Joey Santos of Love One Another Sound Production. It was initially recorded by Yeng Constantino in 2012 and Daniel Padilla in 2013.
“Handing over control to God regarding what you want to happen in your life. Where the Lord places your happiness, that’s where you should be. I felt that Sponge Cola was perfect for giving this song a pop-rock feel. When I spoke to Yael, he was immediately on board to reimagine the song,” Jungee remarked.
“Kung Saan Ka Masaya” is among the tracks featured in his forthcoming album under Star Music, showcasing a compilation of his reimagined hits performed by various OPM artists such as Sunkissed Lola, Ben&Ben, and more. The album is inspired by several anniversaries and milestones in his life.
“I always enjoy creating word combinations, merging two words together. So, I realized I’m celebrating many anniversaries, like songs such as ‘Hataw Na’ and ‘Sa Yaweh ang Sayaw,’ which I wrote for Gary V, celebrating 30 years, ‘Nasa Iyo Na Ang Lahat’ nearly 15 years. Most of these songs mark milestones in my life, and I thought of them as a series of anniversaries compiled in ‘Anniverseries,’” Jungee shared.
He launched the album during his 60th birthday concert, also titled “Anniverseries,” held last May 9 at the Greenhills Christian Fellowship auditorium.
As a veteran songwriter, Jungee has crafted numerous hits, including Zia Quizon’s “Ako Na Lang,” Gary Valenciano’s “Hataw Na” and “Sa Yaweh Ang Sayaw,” KZ Tandingan’s “Labo,” Daniel Padilla’s “Nasa Iyo Na Ang Lahat,” Darren Espanto’s “Alam,” and many more.
His accolades include victories in local songwriting festivals such as Metropop, Himig Handog, PhilPop, and internationally at the Asia Songfest, Shanghai Songfest, and Musika Manila International Songfest. Jungee has also received multiple recognitions from the Awit Awards and Katha Awards, earning honors in categories like song of the year, producer of the year, and record of the year. He was also bestowed the Office of the President DepEd Gawad Liriko for his advocacy in Filipino songwriting craftsmanship.
