Breakout NYC singer-songwriter Juliet Ivy has released her highly anticipated EP, tiny but scary, via AWAL. The EP is now available for streaming here, and you can watch the official video for the lead track, “girl talk,” here.
In tiny but scary, Juliet Ivy explores her personal journey as a young woman in the 21st century. “Girlhood is a central theme in this project—it’s all about the complex, ever-changing emotions of being a young girl,” Juliet shares. While the EP captures Juliet’s current experiences, her thoughtful lyrics provide a broader perspective on her life. The project invites listeners into her world with candid yet whimsical lyrics and gently compelling melodies. “This EP is about inviting listeners who discovered me through my first project, playpen, into a deeper part of my world—my thoughts, my room, my past,” Juliet explains. “playpen was about how I perceived the world outside; this new project delves into my internal world.”
Juliet Ivy, a 23-year-old artist from a Colombian-Chinese family in New York City, has made a significant mark in the music world. After enrolling at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, she immersed herself in songwriting and production, starting her music career as a freshman. By her sophomore year, she was collaborating with various producers across the city. It was during one of these sessions that Juliet had a profound realization: “Being the sole writer and lyricist in the room made me fall deeply in love with lyrics. I had never experienced a space where lyrics were the primary focus.”
This epiphany shifted her creative priorities, leading her to delve into songwriting that explored themes of existentialism, growth, and the complexities of life. Her breakthrough came with her debut single, “breakfast song,” a track that reflects on the journey of navigating life’s uncertainties. This revelation spurred Juliet to create her first EP, playpen.
Juliet dedicated the end of 2022 and early 2023 to crafting playpen, which released in late 2023. The EP’s standout single, “we’re all eating each other,” soared to No. 1 on Spotify’s Global Viral 50, and the EP accumulated over 65 million streams. Juliet’s music, blending existential themes with whimsical lyrics and a playful yet insightful perspective, has resonated widely.
Recently, Juliet wrapped up her debut headline tour, which included a performance at the Head in the Clouds Festival in NYC, a sold-out show in London, and an appearance at The Great Escape in Brighton, UK. Her unique blend of introspective and imaginative songwriting continues to captivate audiences around the world.
