ABS-CBN, the Philippines’ premier content provider, and Nippon TV, Japan’s leading entertainment powerhouse, are collaborating to bring Filipino audiences the tenth adaptation of the acclaimed Japanese TV drama Mother. The local version, titled Saving Grace, will star award-winning actress Julia Montes.
Originally aired in 2010, Mother became a critical and commercial success on Nippon TV and is now Asia’s most widely adapted scripted format. The series, which explores themes of love and motherhood, has inspired adaptations in Turkey, South Korea, Ukraine, Thailand, China, France, Spain, Saudi Arabia, and Mongolia. The Philippine adaptation marks the landmark tenth version of this celebrated script.
“We are thrilled to introduce ABS-CBN Studios’ latest Dreamscape production, Saving Grace. This will be the first adaptation of a Nippon TV series for us, and we are honored to be trusted with this beautiful story about family and motherhood,” said Cory Vidanes, Chief Operating Officer of ABS-CBN. “We believe this emotionally engaging series will resonate deeply with Filipino audiences and viewers worldwide.”
Yuki Akehi and Sally Yamamoto from Nippon TV’s Content Business added, “As we celebrate the tenth international adaptation of Mother, we are excited to partner with ABS-CBN. We are confident that the Filipino audience will embrace this heartfelt story. Best wishes to the cast and crew.”
Julia Montes will be the eleventh actress to portray the central role, following impressive performances by her counterparts from other countries. Her diverse career and compelling roles make her a fitting choice for this challenging character, promising to captivate audiences with her artistry.
Additional cast members for Saving Grace will be announced soon. The production is set to begin shortly, with the series scheduled to air in 2025. The plot follows a struggling teacher who, in a desperate act, abducts a young student suffering from abuse. The situation escalates into a national manhunt, adding layers of tension and drama.
