Jollibee Foods Corporation, the largest restaurant group in Asia, which owns or operates eighteen brands with over 6,300 restaurant, café, and bakery locations worldwide, has made a significant commitment to transition to using exclusively cage-free eggs across its global operations. In addition to its flagship Jollibee restaurant chain, boasting over 1,600 locations worldwide, the company also encompasses the global café chain Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (with over 1,000 global locations), the bakery brand Red Ribbon (with over 550 global locations), and various restaurant and café chains, including Chowking (with over 600 global locations), Yonghe King (with over 420 locations), Mang Inasal (with over 570 locations), Highlands Coffee (with over 600 locations), Milksha (with over 280 locations), and Greenwich (with over 270 locations). Furthermore, Jollibee manages several franchised brands in the Philippines and other Asian markets.
The company’s new responsible sourcing policy emphasizes responsible sourcing, including animal welfare considerations, to ensure the highest quality and safest food offerings for its customers. As part of this commitment, Jollibee aims to transition to using 100% cage-free eggs in the United States by 2025. Globally, the company sets a target to achieve 100% cage-free eggs by 2035 and plans to collaborate with suppliers, partners, and industry leaders to realize this goal.
“With its new policy goal of shifting to use only cage-free eggs globally, Jollibee Foods Corporation and its numerous restaurant and café brands join a growing list of Asia-based food companies that have set timelines to end the use of cruel caged eggs,” stated Robyn del Rosario, Philippines Sustainability Program Manager at the non-profit Lever Foundation, which has worked closely with the company and several of its iconic food brands over the past eighteen months.
Jollibee Foods Corporation’s pledge follows similar commitments made by nearly twenty other prominent Philippines-based food and beverage groups since the beginning of the previous year, including 75% of hospitality groups in the country, as well as convenience and retail players. This pledge is also in line with the recent commitments made by most major QSR (Quick Service Restaurant) groups worldwide, including Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut, Papa John’s, Dunkin Donuts, Costa Coffee, and others, to transition to cage-free eggs.
