Jojo Mendrez: New Song ‘Nandito Lang Ako’ Released

OPM balladeer Jojo Mendrez, widely known as the ‘Revival King,’ has released his highly anticipated first original single titled “Nandito Lang Ako.”

After captivating audiences with his heartfelt renditions of classics like “Basta Ikaw,” “Magkabilang Mundo,” and “Somewhere in My Past,” Jojo is now stepping into new territory with an original composition by Jonathan Manalo, ABS-CBN Music creatives, content, and operations head, and a multi-awarded songwriter-producer.

“For me, para buo at kumpleto ang pagiging singer, dapat meron kang isang Jonathan Manalo composition,” shared Jojo.

Recording the song was no easy feat. Jojo admitted to feeling nervous during the first session with Jonathan. “Nag-take talaga ako ng tranquilizer the first day na nag-meet kami [ni Jonathan] during the recording session. Medyo complicated yung song na crineate niya gawa ng pabago-bago ang tono, tumataas sa dulo,” he recalled.

From Contest Champion to Award-Winning Balladeer

Jojo’s journey began at just 10 years old, joining singing contests in his hometown of Quezon province. Determined to refine his craft, he moved to Manila about a decade later and trained at the Music School of Ryan Cayabyab.

His passion and perseverance paid off, as he clinched the 2018 Star Awards for Music Revival Song of the Year for his version of “Handog.” His revival of “Somewhere In My Past” has also amassed 50 million combined views across various platforms.

Fans can look forward to the upcoming music video for “Nandito Lang Ako,” which will star none other than the Philippine Superstar, Nora Aunor. This collaboration promises to bring an emotional depth to the song that fans will surely love.

More OPM Revivals on the Way

Jojo is not stopping anytime soon. He is also set to release reimagined versions of beloved OPM classics, including “Tamis Ng Unang Halik” and “I Love You Boy.”
