Kapamilya singer-songwriter Jel Rey captures the warmth of a special friendship, where one can feel at ease despite social awkwardness, in his latest single “Naiilang.”
Jel Rey penned the indie-pop track as a tribute to a friend who helps him navigate the challenges of socializing with others. The song was produced by StarPop label head Roque “Rox” Santos.
Before “Naiilang,” Jel Rey released his debut extended play (EP) titled TERAPEWTIKA, which features singles like “Nasa Alapaap Ang Paraluman” and “hele pono,” the latter earning a nomination for Best Performance by a New Solo Artist at the 37th Awit Awards.
Reflecting on the experience, Jel Rey shared in a TikTok post, “I remember joking to my friend last year when I first heard the final mix, saying, ‘This is going to the Awit Awards,’ and now, I’ve actually been nominated. Manifestation really works.”
Known for his adventurous songwriting style, Jel Rey dabbles in various genres, including rock, hip-hop, and soul. He also shares unique content on TikTok, where he showcases his music, songwriting process, and spontaneous performances for strangers.
