Jed Madela started the presscon at Sir Boy’s Food Republique last March 4, 2014, with an upbeat song entitled “WISH”, which is one of the songs from his latest album, ALL ORIGINAL under Star Records and produced by Jonathan Manalo.
This Album is Jed’s first all-original album hence the title, it has 10 solid tracks and 2 bonus tracks. WISH is the first single of the said album and in this song, we saw a different kind of Jed Madela.
People are used to hearing Jed Madela sing love songs, revivals, covers of power ballads such as How Can I Fall, Love Always Finds A Way, Forevermore, so hearing the song “WISH” was definitely refreshing and perfect for this summer season. The song shows how versatile Jed Madela is as a singer and performer. Who would expect that he could carry singing an upbeat song with ease? He pulled it off perfectly and in case you’re wondering where you heard that song before, you may have heard it from Star Cinema’s BAKIT DI KA CRUSH NG CRUSH MO Starring Kim Chiu and Xian Lim. The said song was originally composed as a love song by Carlos Garcia and since it was the last song submitted for the album, Jonathan Manalo decided to change the melody and make the tempo upbeat to differentiate the song from the rest of the songs in the album.
His second song was “DITO LANG”, the third single in the album and was written by Kiko Salazar and the song was even used for a Koreanovela for “A Promise of A Thousand Days” aired every 4pm in ABS-CBN, which piloted last May 27, 2013 and ended last July 12, 2013. DITO LANG is a simple yet very emotional love song that shows how a person would stand by the one he loves no matter what happens. It starts out very mild but near the end of the song, it reaches its peak and listeners would get to hear Jed’s epic vocal range, so yes, it’s worth listening to. What’s amazing about Jed’s voice is that though he reaches really high notes, his voice is still pleasant to hear.
Third song was written by Christian Martinez, which is “IPINAPANGAKO KO”, the fourth single in the ALL ORIGINAL ALBUM. The song is a little upbeat and relaxing.
When asked how long it took for them to conceptualize and launch an all-original album, Madela answered, “It’s every singer’s dream to come up with his own songs, his own sounds, and for the ten years that I have been in the industry, siguro yung timing lang siguro na pumasok ako sa industriya, uso talaga yung revivals kaya we had to ride with the trend. It’s not just artistic expression, it’s also a business, kaya kailangan compromised din so I showcased my voice sa songs na maibebenta ng label so we had to wait for a couple of years para maestablish yung tunog ni Jed Madela, and now with Star Records, nailabas ko kung ano talaga yung sound ko, kasi you all know me as the biritero, the singer of love songs, ganun, so masyado akong naka-hold dun, so with this album, which took a couple of years in the conceptualizing stage, nailabas ko lahat dito, naipakita ko dito na hindi lang ako pang love songs, pwede ako sa pang-upbeat, pwede ako sa pang-groove, so it’s a multi-faceted album kaya happy ako na nailabas ito ng Star Records.”
When asked if he wrote songs in his album, he mentioned that he wrote TANGING IKAW with the guidance of Jonathan Manalo. The song is very moving and it would be a perfect song for people who loves Jed’s signature ballad voice. He also has a couple of songs waiting for the right time when it could be released.
Jed was also asked about his inclusion to “Do You Hear The People Sing?”, wherein he thanked Lea Salonga for including him effortlessly to the said benefit concert for the Yolanda Victims. The singers there mostly had a background on theatre performance so Jed considered it an honor to be included in the said event.
When it comes to his love life, Jed mentioned: “if hinahanap mo at pinipilit mo, you end up with the wrong person and you end up with people na you thought perfect para sa iyo, yun pala hindi, especially more on our end, which is nasa showbiz kasi you don’t know who the real people are…the real ones or the ones that just use you, so ako, I decided to just let it be, it’s going to happen anyway. If it comes, it comes, if not, I’m happy with how I am right now, I am so blessed. And if it comes at this moment, it would be unfair for the person so, it would just come.”
Jed was asked if he feels any pressure that his concert at PICC will be shown on ABS-CBN this coming June 2014. Jed confidently answered that he is pressured but confident since it showcased everything in his repertoire.
Since the Oscar Winning song LET IT GO from the Disney movie, Frozen is very popular, Jed was asked if he can do an impromptu rendition of the big hit. He happily obliged, though he forgot a couple of lines, his pitch was perfect and he was able to reach the high notes considering that he was sitting at that time.
Asked if he can incorporate a dance choreography to “WISH”, which he could perform in ASAP or any of ABS-CBN’s shows, Jed smiled and mentioned this was a great idea.
If there is one album that Jed can be proud of, ALL ORIGINALis definitely one of them. There are so many potential hits in this album and I’m sure people would enjoy hearing Jed Madela’s songs.
