Itchyworms Pay Tribute to Late Manager Chino Singson with New Song “Panic In My Mind”

The upbeat, ‘60s-inspired track can also be interpreted in many ways, according to lead vocalist and drummer Jazz Nicolas

The Itchyworms are back with a new single, “Panic In My Mind,” a vibrant retro-pop tune that deals with the bittersweet feeling of a loved one moving away to start a new life. The song was specifically written for bandmate Chino Singson, who moved to Canada with his family.

Lead vocalist, drummer, pianist, keyboardist, and keytar player Jazz Nicolas wrote the song based on a real-life event but explained that the meaning behind the lyrics can be interpreted in different ways. “The second half of the song shifts the narrative to a bitter person whose ex-partner is now with someone else, and is having a jealous existential crisis because of that,” Nicolas said.

The track features The Itchyworms’ signature sound, with intricate vocal harmonies and colorful melodies reminiscent of ’60s-style pop. The arrangement perfectly complements the lyrics, which explore the feeling of longing for someone in a world where they seem to be an anomaly. The music is infused with effortless grace and less theatrics.

Nicolas said the band aimed for a more organic sound with acoustic instruments compared to their previous album, Waiting For The End To Start, which had many electronic elements. “Panic In My Mind” also has a ’60s vibe, thanks to the jangly guitars and three-part harmonies.

Produced by Jazz Nicolas and Mikey Amistoso, a longtime friend and collaborator who is now officially part of the band, “Panic In My Mind” is a must-listen for fans of The Itchyworms.
