I went to SM City North EDSA April 24,2013 to see Iron Man 3. I decided to see it in 3D at the regular cinema rather than the IMAX. I saw the 7:00 p.m. screening at Cinema 1. Excited, I queued earlier at the cinema entrance to get a good seat. Having seen the first 2 Iron Man movies, I was full of enthusiasm and expectations that this will be a movie worth paying Php 300 pesos (in addition to the Php 175 worth of condiments/snacks) and would have paid more if I saw it in IMAX.
The movie started and dragged on for the introductory scenes to establish the background for the other two characters: Aldrich Killian (played by Guy Pearce) and Maya Hansen (played by Rebecca Hall). I’m not sure how long it was, but it was sure long enough to get the guy next to me complaining when the action will start! Although it was necessary to establish to 2 characters, in my opinion it was too long for an action movie.
When a bit of the action started, then it became alright but still not as fast paced for an action superhero movie. Of course, at the later part it started to pick-up and became more exciting.
The storyline was quite good but overall I was a bit disappointed in the movie for a couple of reasons:
- slow start as I mentioned earlier
- the 3D was not impressive at all. Maybe because it was not originally shot using 3D cameras but converted to 3D in post production. Save some bucks and don’t bother watching it in 3D unless you will be watching it in IMAX 3D.
- the sound was not loud enough (it could be the problem of the cinema). Could not feel the intensity of the explosion and action scene.
Overall, I rate the movie 3 out of 5. It is still worth watching especially if you have seen the other 2 Iron Man movies. Good storyline and some good action super hero scenes at the later part of the movie.
