His debut single has gone viral on TikTok, and has spent more than a month in the top 20 of the Spotify Philippines Top 200 charts
The rising Filipino pop-rock sensation, Jed Baruelo, continues to make waves in the Philippines with his hit song “Nahuhulog,” which he describes as a testament to the inexplicable sensation of falling head over heels in love and being utterly captivated by someone.
This infectious track has maintained its position within the top 20 of the Spotify Philippines Top 200 charts for over a month, while also achieving viral status on TikTok, thanks to the creative videos crafted by devoted fans who use its enchanting segments to add a touch of romance to their content.
Baruelo sheds light on the song’s TikTok journey, saying, “It all began with the ‘AUs’ on TikTok, where people utilized ‘Nahuhulog’ as a soundtrack for their imaginative stories that entertained specific communities or fan bases. The ‘eye trend’ likely played a significant role in boosting the song’s recognition, as the trend revolved around showcasing the eyes of loved ones. Additionally, the catchy chorus and intro of ‘Nahuhulog’ undoubtedly grabbed their attention.”
Crafted and produced by Jed Baruelo himself, the song delves into a confessional type of love brimming with excitement and sincere admiration. Fusing alt-rock melodies with ’80s synth elements and lush arrangements, the track is designed to be an instant earworm while retaining the depth of its lyrics.
In an exciting development, Jed Baruelo has recently joined the roster of artists under Sony Music Entertainment, a label home to some of the most prominent OPM acts of recent times, including Ben&Ben, SB19, Clara Benin, Ace Banzuelo, NOBITA, and more.
Reflecting on this collaboration, the emerging hitmaker shares, “My experience with Sony so far has been fantastic; I genuinely feel like part of the family, and they’ve been instrumental in generating numerous creative ideas to promote my music. I was thrilled about Sony’s proposal regarding my music career and the continued promotion of my chart-topping song, ‘Nahuhulog.'”
Just a few days ago, “Nahuhulog” was accompanied by an official music video co-directed by Jed Baruelo, his cousin Elijah Baruelo, and his close friend Rovic Bartolome. While the video’s concept differs from a literal interpretation of the song, the visual narrative conveys the essence of “Nahuhulog” with subtlety.
Baruelo elaborates, “The video essentially portrays me in a dreamlike state with a mysterious girl. It’s clear that I’m immensely happy when I’m with her, yet she remains an enigma, and I can’t recall or recognize her when I wake up at the end. Furthermore, the heart depicted in the music video directly symbolizes an overflowing love for someone, to the point where your heart feels like it’s falling to the ground.”
Notably, the music video for “Nahuhulog” is produced by Joey Baruelo, Jed’s own father, marking his debut as a producer.
Jed Baruelo’s “Nahuhulog” is now available on all major digital music platforms worldwide through Sony Music Entertainment.
